Captain Josiah D. Baxter
End of Watch: Monday, May 3, 1875

Age: 57
Tour of Duty: 17 years              

Cause of Death: Gunfire
Date of Incident: Monday, May 3, 1875
Weapon Used: Gun; Unknown type
Suspect Info: Sentenced to prison

Captain Baxter was shot and killed while trying to arrest a domestic abuser. The suspect was captured a short time later.The suspect was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to prison.

Captain Baxter was survived by his wife.

Patrolman George S. Bell
End of Watch: Saturday, June 29, 1946

Age: 31
Tour of Duty: 4 years

Cause of Death: Gunfire
Date of Incident: Saturday, June 29, 1946
Weapon Used: Gun; Unknown type
Suspect Info: Shot and killed

Patrolman Bell was shot and killed by a migrant worker when he and another officer attempted to arrest him for the murder of a house maid a week earlier. A short time later a state trooper shot and killed the suspect when the suspect opened fire on him in a field near a migrant workers camp.

Patrolman Bell was survived by his wife and was a World War 2 US Marine Corps veteran.

Patrolman Paul David Murphy

Age: 36
Tour of Duty: 2 years

Cause of Death: Fall
Date of Incident: Thursday, January 28, 1965

Patrolman Murphy was found unconscious at the base of a flight of ice-covered steps off of School Street. He died a short time later at a Boston Hospital.

Patrolman Murphy was survived by his wife and two children. He was a WW2 USMC veteran serving from 1945-1947.
