Captain James E. LeBretton joined the Plymouth Police Department in 2006 as a Patrolman. In 2011, he was assigned to the Canine Unit where he served as the handler of K-9 Kaiser followed by K-9 Caelen.
In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant serving as a Patrol Supervisor in the Patrol Division. Additionally, he served as the supervisor of the department’s Marine Unit attached to the MetroLEC regional maritime response unit.
In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant serving as a Shift Commander in the Patrol Division. There, he was responsible for the supervision of all assigned personnel and the oversight of daily shift operations.
In May of 2021, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and is currently assigned to the Division of Administration. As Captain of Administration, he is responsible for the oversight of the Training Division, Records Division, Firearms Licensing, Building Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Equipment, Auxiliary Services, and Special Events.
Captain LeBretton is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard after four years of honorable service. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice as well as Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, both from Curry College. Captain LeBretton is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute and Command Leadership Institute.
