Full-time Civil Service Lateral Transfer Police Officer

The Plymouth Police Department seeks a highly motivated, proactive and community-oriented police officer for lateral transfer to this Department. Applicant must have Civil Service status under Chapter 31 and be eligible for transfer from their current department. Applicant must have successfully completed a MPTC full-time academy, be POST certified, possess a Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license, Massachusetts license to carry firearms, possess solid problem-solving ability and have strong verbal and written skills. The Town of Plymouth is located in Southeastern Massachusetts. Known as “America’s Hometown, Plymouth encompasses 134 square miles with a beautiful coastline, and a historical, vibrant downtown/waterfront area. Plymouth is easily accessible by Routes 3 and 44. The Plymouth Police Department is authorized for 128 sworn officers who serve a population of over 62,000 residents. Plymouth offers many different specialty positions which include Detectives, Narcotics, Motors, K9, Mounted, Street Crimes, Mountain Bike, SRO’s, and a Marine Unit.

The current salary for police officers ranges from $64,008 to $75,037. Lateral officers will get credit for time served. Education, experience, and years of service will determine starting salary and vacation time.

Other benefits include educational incentives, night shift differential, clothing allowance and extra pay for specialty positions. Health insurance plans are offered through the town with a 75/25 percentage split between Town and employee.
