Marine Unit

Plymouth Marine Unit boat.

These Plymouth Police Officers have received maritime law enforcement training and are currently assigned to crew the department’s patrol boat. These officers liaise with such agencies as the Plymouth Harbor-master’s Office, the US Coast Guard, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police. Their duties include boating safety enforcement, boating under the influence (“BUI”) interdiction patrols and maritime security. Our boat, named the Captain Josiah D. Baxter (in memory of our first Fallen Officer), is a 25’ Safe Boat that provides a rapid response, is highly maneuverable and is equipped with navigation electronics, towing capabilities, a fire/dewatering pump and medical equipment to assist other boaters in distress. It is also equipped with “FLIR” (Forward Looking InfraRed) capable of seeing through fog and total darkness as well as Interphase Forward Looking Sonar to aid in underwater searches.
