The Town of Plymouth, “America’s Hometown”, is located in Southeastern Massachusetts and encompasses 134 square miles with 37 miles of beautiful coastline, and a historical, vibrant downtown/waterfront area. Plymouth is easily accessible by Routes 3 and 44. The Plymouth Police Department is authorized for 132 sworn officers who serve a population of approximately 67,000 full-time residents and a summer population over 100,000.
Plymouth Police offer many different specialty positions which include the Detective Division, Narcotics Division, Motor Unit, K9 Unit, Mountain Bike Unit, Marine Unit, ATV Unit, School Resource Officer, Crisis Intervention Team, and Community Engagement Team.
Minimum Requirements
- Min Age: 21 / Max Age: 39 (does not apply to civil service laterals)
- High School Diploma or GED
- U.S. Citizen
- Valid MA Driver’s License by employment
- No Felony Convictions; must meet POST Commission character standards
- Pass medical exam, psychological exam, and drug test
- Pass the Massachusetts Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
- Attend and graduate from an MPTC-approved police academy
- Must meet any applicable residency requirements.
New Hire Applicants
The Plymouth Police Department is a civil service department. All individuals seeking to join the Plymouth Police Department as a new hire with no prior police experience will be required to take the Massachusetts Civil Service Police Exam.
