Crash Reports

Crash Reports Completed By Responding Officers: The threshold for a full police crash report is any crash involving a death, injury, a “vulnerable user,” or damage to any one vehicle or other property exceeding $1,000 as estimated by the reporting officer. G.L. c. 90, §29. Crash reports meeting the crash reporting threshold will be available on CRASHDOCS powered by Carfax within 7 to 10 days of the accident. Minor vehicle crashes resulting in only an information exchange and police log entry, as well as all crash reports, are also available through a general public records request below.

Reports for crashes on the expressway where there was a response by the Massachusetts State Police should be directed to that agency.

Crash Reports Completed by Motorists/Drivers: Operators of motor vehicles are also required to complete their own report within 5 days of a crash involving a death, injury, a “vulnerable user,” or damage to any one vehicle or other property exceeding $1,000. Three copies must be completed, with one each sent or delivered to their insurance company, the Registry of Motor Vehicles, and the police department of the city or town in which the crash occurred. The Registrar is empowered to revoke or suspend the license of any operator who does not comply with this requirement. G.L. c. 90, §26.

General Records Requests

For the quickest response, we ask you use our online Public Request Form since it will prompt you, as the requestor, to provide the required information we need to locate the requested record in the most expedient manner. Please leave valid contact information in case we need additional details regarding your request.

Replies will be sent from the “no-reply-plymouthpolice@plymouthpolice.com” email address. Please ensure any replies are not mistakenly restricted or filtered as junk or spam.

Public Records Requests may also be made in writing by fax or U.S. mail, as well as in person at Plymouth Police Department headquarters at any time. However, we can only provide records during normal business hours, as posted above. We DO NOT accept records requests by phone, though you are always welcome to direct any questions to the Records Division at (508) 830-4218, ext. 15253.

We also accept request by email at records@plymouthpolice.com; any supporting documentation should be ATTACHED in PDF or other common format. We will not utilize provided links to supporting documentation on services such as Google Drive and Dropbox.

As noted above, it may take up to 10 business days to respond to public records requests. Should your records request trigger any fees, you will receive notification and a fee estimate prior to the completion of your request. Any payment must be made by check or money order.

There are numerous prohibitions and exemptions as to information that can or will be released to you under Massachusetts Public Records Law. If a record is redacted or withheld you will be notified as to why. Please see our Public Request Form page for a list of common prohibitions and exemptions.

Media Inquiries

Please be aware Massachusetts Public Records Law only applies to public records already in existence and does not require a Records Access Officer to answer questions or inquires, nor create a record in response to a request. While the Records Division is always happy to assist requesters in finding the record they are seeking, in order to avoid a delayed response, media inquiries, questions, or requests for comment from radio, television, news publications, or other social media platforms should be directed to mediarelations@plymouthpolice.com.

Sex Offender Information Requests

Sex offender information may be requested in person at the Plymouth Police Department at any time. Requests are fulfilled by the Records Division during normal business hours. Your request will require you present a form of photo identification and will be kept on file for no less than three years. You will receive a phone call that your request is complete. The information will consist of a flyer generated by the Sex Offender Registry Board.

Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Records

The Plymouth Police Department does not provide members of the general public with access to state-compiled criminal records, including that of the requestor themselves. Persons seeking such records are encouraged to contact the Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services or visit their website for more information.

Driving Records

The Plymouth Police Department does not provide members of the public with access to driving records, including that of the requestor themselves. Persons seeking such driving records are encouraged to contact the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles or visit their website for more information.
